Back in September, Jess and I were honored with the task of styling a friend’s wedding reception space. The blushing bride, Olivia Lansing Herrick, is a fellow designer and golfer extraordinaire. As with any situation that involves styling a space, it’s important to have a keen understanding of the desired aesthetic.
Olivia and her wonderful mother were the queens of organization. Since Jess and I were brought in to the planning process closer to her wedding date, Olivia created a mood board showing the look and feel for her wedding – real photos of her wedding gown, the bridesmaid dresses and also aspirational photos of floral arrangements and decor ideas.
This mood board, and the organizational chart that detailed other helpers’ roles for the day, greatly helped us prepare to make her reception space just as she envisioned it. Take note, party planners, this is how you keep everyone on the same page! It also helped that Olivia and her mom organized all props and materials into labeled plastic bins so there were no surprises or lost items.
So, with all these tools and know-how in hand, and the extra assistance of Jess’ friend Marlo, we beautifully brought her reception space to fruition. We loved how simple, elegant, natural and fresh everything felt. Scroll below to get a glimpse! All photos by the extremely talented Matt Lien (who also shot Jess and Ross’ wedding).
